Taipei Film Awards


The nominees of TFA will be selected by the jury of shortlist stage. The award winners will be decided by the jury members assembled with jurors of shortlist stage and final stage.

Jury of Shortlist Stage

  • CHEN Yu-hsun(Jury President)

    Chen is a Taiwanese filmmaker for films, series, and advertisement. His works are often (dark) comedies. In 1995, he wrote and directed the first feature film Tropical Fish. Fantasy, parody, and humor are signatures in his works. He has also delivered widely popular music videos, advertising films, and TV series. In 2013, his Zone Pro Site was one of the bestselling domestic films of the year. In 2020, his film My Missing Valentine won Best Director at Taipei Film Awards and Golden Horse Awards.

  • LEE Tien-Chueh

    Lee is a film art practitioner that expands creative ranges to experimental fields. He builds visual aesthetics based on theatrical perceptions, and blends distinctive styles in the process. In 2009, he won Best Artistic Design at Golden Horse Awards and Best Artistic Director at Asian Film Awards with Visage. His recent works include The Silent Forest, The Painting of Evil, and Days Before the Millennium.

  • CHOU,I-WEN

    Chou is a senior cinematographer in films and series. Major works include The Making of an Ordinary Woman 2, Dad's Suit, Orz Boyz, What on Earth Have I Done Wrong?!, and Wintry Night II. In 2019, he won Best Cinematography at Taipei Film Awards with Dad's Suit. He received Best Cinematography at Golden Bell Awards 2022 with The Making of an Ordinary Woman 2.

  • LIN Hsin-I

    Lin has designed costumes for many TV series in the past, and participated in films for the first time in 2009 for Seediq Bale. Over the years, she has worked in Girls, Café. Waiting. Love, and KANO. She won Best Makeup and Costume Design at the 58th Golden Horse Awards with Till We Meet Again.

  • LIM Hung-fung Alex

    Lim is a senior VFX specialist from Hong Kong and a co-founder for Free-D Workshop. He has worked with renowned filmmakers, such as Dante Lam, Alan Mak, and Benny Chan. His key works include Re-cycle, Beast Stalker, Overheard, Overheard 2, The Silent War, That Demon Within, Project Gutenberg, A Witness out of the Blue, Enter the Fat Dragon, and Raging Fire. He has received Best VFX at Hong Kong Film Award with Re-cycle.

  • Umin Boya

    Umin Boya began his acting career in 2000, and participated in various series and films, such as Little Doctor in Big Hospital, Seediq Bale, Zinnia Flower, Listen Before You Sing, and Till We Meet Again. He has been nominated for multiple awards in Taiwan. He wrote and directed KANO, which received six nominations at Golden Horse Awards, and won Audience Choice Award and Prix FIPRESCI.

  • Nose Chan

    Nose Chan is Hong Kong Independent Film Festival programmer and film editor. Since 1999, his video works have been nominated in multiple film festivals and art festivals. He has also judged in several international film festivals. He has contributed to films, such as Tomorrow Is Another Day, Leave Me Alone, and A Light Never Goes Out. In 2019 and 2023, he was nominated for Best Editing at Hong Kong Film Award with Suk Suk and To My Nineteen-Year-Old Self.

  • CHEN Ming-Ho

    Animation filmmaker Chen Ming Ho has participated in film (Double Vision and Fist & Faith) and music video (The Era by Jay Chou). His original Rock Rabbit received Best Visual Effect at the 16th Taipei Film Awards. Root was nominated at the 33rd Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Shell won Best Taiwanese Film at the 5th Golden Horse International Digital Shorts Competition.

  • Rachel CHEN

    Rachel Chen was a journalist and Jet Tone Films Taiwan General Manager. In 2011, Chen founded Touch of Light Films. Over the years, she has produced Touch of the Light, My Egg Boy, We Are Champions, and Kill for Love. In 2020, We Are Champions was nominated for 14 Taipei Film Awards, and received Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Action Chereography.

  • HO, Chao-ti

    Ho is a documentary producer and director. Over the years, her subjects have always been marginalized and non-mainstream. Her enriching visual languages are gentle but piercing, and have received recognitions in international film festivals. Signature works include Turning 18, Sunflower Occupation, Sock'n Roll, and My Fancy High Heels. Turning 18 won Media Recommendation Award at Taipei Film Festival in 2019. El Salvador Journal won Jury Award at Taipei Film Festival in 2008.

  • Wen Tzu-chieh

    Wen is a renowned music supervisor across films, series, documentaries, animations, and advertising films. In 2006, he participated in the first feature film My Football Summer. His works in various styles have appeared in films (Touch of the Light, On Happiness Road, and We Are Champions) and series (The Teenage Psychic and Light the Night). He was nominated twice for Best Score at Taipei Film Awards with We Are Champions (2020) and Remember Me (2022).

  • Esther Liu

    Esther Liu debuted in a music duo Sweety in 2003. She studied design in Paris in 2007, and published her first book Paris, Le temps qui compte. In 2011, Liu founded an entertainment agency. In 2013, she won Best Supporting Actress at Golden Bell Awards with Falling. In 2015, she released the personal debut album Résurrection. In 2020, she started a personal YouTube channel and garnered over 1 million views with personal stories and experiences. She also received two more nominations for Best Supporting Actress with Mother to be and Light the Night. She also participates in an international coproduction Sally to be premiered in 2023. She speaks Mandarin, English, Japanese, and French. Her career expands from television, film, music, publishing, to YouTube. Over 20 years, people often focus on her appearance, but she is never afraid to define her own beauty.

  • Frank Cheng

    Cheng is a renowned sound supervisor that studied music production and engineering at Berklee College of Music. After film score mixing experiences in America, he returned to Taiwan in 2003, and focused on music and sound post-production. His major works include Light the Night, Hi, Mom, Shadow, Hello Mr. Billionaire, Black & White: The Dawn of Justice, and Zone Pro Site. He was nominated for Best Sound Effect at Golden Horse Awards with Black & White: The Dawn of Justice.

Jury of Final Stage

  • Yuet-Chun Hui

    Hui started her career as scriptwriter and associate director in the 1990s. In 2000, she joined Applause Pictures founded by Peter Chan as his executive producer. Their works included Three (2002), Wu Xia | Dragon (2011), Dearest (2014), and The Warlords (2007). In recent years, she has been supporting emerging filmmakers, such as Derek Tsang’s director debut Soul Mate (2016), and editor Derek Hui’s director debut This Is Not What I Expected (2017). In 2017, she co-founded Goodfellas Pictures with Tsang in Hong Kong, and released the first film Better Days in 2019.

  • Nikki Hsieh

    Hsieh is an actress from Taiwan that has won Best Supporting Actress at the 43rd Golden Horse Awards with Reflections, and Best Leading Actress at the 13th Taipei Film Awards with Make Up. In TV series Die Sterntaler (2012), she played a positive character born deaf and mute, and she was nominated for Best Leading Actress at the 48th Golden Bell Awards. In feature film I Weirdo (2020), she played a girl who had serious symptoms of mysophobia, wore face masks, raincoats and gloves all the time, and washed and sanitized to avoid germs. Her outstanding performances in the film got her nominated for Best Leading Actress at the 57th Golden Horse Awards and the 23rd Taipei Film Awards.
